Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated or prolonged tension on hair follicles. Unlike most other forms of hair loss in this series, it is not driven by genetics, hormones, or an autoimmune process. Traction alopecia is preventable if tension-related hairstyles are discontinued early when hair loss is first noticed. The treatment goals are to relieve symptoms, stop further hair loss, and possibly regrow hair.
